#9 Terps Falter in Second Half, Fall to #3 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 3 Northwestern used an 11-0 run from the end of the first half to beginning of the second half to take control of the game and ultimately defeat the No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse team, 20-10 on Monday afternoon. 

Maryland was fantastic defensively in the first half, led by four groundballs and two caused turnovers by Tori Barretta to hold Northwestern to just seven goals and their leading scorer, Izzy Scane, scoreless. On the offensive end, a hat-trick by Hannah Leubecker and career-high three assists by Catie May contributed to the Terps seven goals. Grace Griffin also had three points in the first half with two goals and an assist. May would end the game with four assists. 
 
The game was tied, 7-7, at the end of the first half before Northwestern outscored Maryland 13-3 in the second half. 

Leubecker would score five goals on the game and now has 35 goals on the season, the most ever in program history through the first eight games in a season. Leubecker has at-least three goals in six of eight games this year and at-least five goals in four games.

The Terps fall to 5-3 on the season and have a week off before facing #22 Rutgers next Thursday, April 8 at 5:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
