View From the Box
  • The Terrapins (1-3-0) put forth their best effort of the season against the Badgers (0-4-0), controlling the flow of the entire 90 minutes. There were very few moments in which Wisconsin was able to control any possession, a credit to the Terps' stranglehold on the match.
  • Senior Paul Bin set the tone early and often for the Terps, with his energy in attack providing a jumping off point for his teammates. Bin almost finished off a well worked back-to-front move in the early stages, but fired his shot high from the top of the box in the seventh minute.
  • It was junior Brayan Padilla that had the best chance of the opening 45 minute for the Terps. A throw in came to Padilla's feet in the attacking third before Texas native cut in with his left foot and unleashed an effort the was just tipped aside by Sven Kleinhaus in the Wisconsin net.
  • The Terps were in the ascendency again at the beginning of the second half. Russell-Rowe almost provided the breakthrough just over a minute into the half, but his header was punched over the crossbar by Kleinhaus.
  • The Canadian would find his goal in the 64th minute. A 50/50 ball at the top of the box fell perfectly for the Russell-Rowe, who blasted a left-footed effort past Kleinhaus for his second goal of the season.
  • Maryland's defensive shape was strong through the match. Alex Nitzl, Brett St. Martin, Chris Rindov and Nick Richardson played their second consecutive match as the Terps'. back four and showed well, only allowed two Wisconsin shots.
  • Niklas Neumann, who was not available for the Terps' first three matches came back into the team and was largely untroubled throughout. It was his 10th shutout as a Terp.
  • Redshirt senior Mike Heitzmann made his first career start as a Terp and played a solid 50 minutes.
  • Maryland moved to 8-2-1 against Wisconsin all-time.
  • Prior to the match, St. Martin was named the Terps' third captain, joining Bin and Eric Matzelevich.
From The Boss

"I'm happy for the guys. It was a great performance today. It was more of the Maryland performance that I expect. We played the game at a high intensity level, our pressing was connected and our possession was much better. When we put that kind of effort in, we can beat anybody." - Sasho Cirovski

From The Boys

"The ball was kind of up in the air at the top of the box and I was able to read when the ball was coming down. My first look was to goal. I've come here to show that I'm a goalscorer. That's my job. My job is to score. I felt like we were able to hold the ball more and press well." - Jacen Russell-Rowe
