COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 11^th-ranked Maryland field hockey squad dropped a match to No. 5 Michigan, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terrapins (6-6, 4-3 B1G) took nine shots in the second half, but did not score.

Maryland outshot Michigan (9-2, 6-0) 13-6 and took seven penalty corners to the Wolverines' three.

"I feel a little déjà vu from yesterday's game from a standpoint of dominating the stats," head coach Missy Meharg said. "We took 13 shots to their six and seven penalty corners to their three. I know I've relayed this to the women on the field but we are so new together. We are a work in progress."

The teams played an even first half, with four shots each through the first 30 minutes. Michigan took the early advantage when Tina D'Anjolell scored with 9:30 left in the second quarter off a pass in front of the cage from Lora Clarke.

The Wolverines led 1-0 at halftime.

Maryland came out of the gate firing to start the third quarter with Mayv Clune and Emma DeBerdine getting shots off in the first minute but both were saved. The Terrapins took six shots in the third quarter and held Michigan without a shot in the period.

Michigan added its second goal 2:15 into the fourth quarter when Anouk Veen scored off a penalty corner.

The Terrapins for two more penalty corners in the fourth quarter but could not get on the board.

Freshman defender Rayne Wright was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday for her first career weekly honor.

Next, the Terrapins will host No. 10 Rutgers (8-3, 5-2) for two games this week at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terps and the Scarlet Knights will play Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
