#11 Terps Close Regular Season at #24 Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 11 Maryland women's lacrosse team will wrap up its 2021 regular season with a trip to New Jersey to face No. 24 Rutgers at SHI Stadium. The Terps and Scarlet Knights will play at 3:00 p.m. with the game to air on BTN Plus.

RUTGERS STORYLINES

LOCKDOWN LIZZIE
  • A two-time IWLCA Third Team All-American and the No. 14 ranked player in all of lacrosse by Inside Lacrosse, redshirt senior Lizzie Colson leads the Maryland defense with her 140 career groundballs, 292 career draw controls and 90 career caused turnovers.
  • LAST WEEK, Colson was named an Inside Lacrosse First Team Midseason All-American. The senior has been the Inside Lacrosse and IWLCA National Player of the Week and a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week this season.
  • Against Rutgers (4/8) last week, Colson had a sensational game, tallying seven groundballs, the most by a Terp since Katie Schwarzmann in 2013 and six caused turnovers, the most by a Terp in at least 10 years.
  • Colson ranks top-six in the country and leads the Big Ten, standing second nationally with 3.00 caused turnovers per game and sixth nationally with 3.64 groundballs per game.
  • The graduate student is third all-time in program history with 292 draw controls, trailing only Taylor Cummings (509) and Kali Hartshorn (421).

HISTORIC HANNAH
  • Attacker Hannah Leubecker has starred for the Terps offensively through 11 games this season, leading the Terps with 39 goals, standing second in program history for goals through the first 11 games of the season, only trailing Megan Whittle's 43 in 2018. Leubecker had the most goals in program history through eight games with 35.
  • Leubecker stands 25th in the country, averaging 3.55 goals per game.
  • The sophomore has at least two goals in nine of 11 games this season with five games of over four goals and two seven goal games.
  • Leubecker this past week was named an Inside Lacrosse Third Team Midseason All-American, was the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week on March 3 and was added to the Tewaaraton Watch List on April 2.

  • The Terps will play a Big Ten only schedule in 2021, playing each of the six conference opponents twice over the course of the season.
  • Since Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2015, the Terps are 35-4 in conference play with five Big Ten Regular Season Championships.
  • Including the postseason, the Terps are 45-6 against Big Ten competition since 2015.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Maryland has never lost to Rutgers, standing at 21-0 all-time. 
  • Maryland and Johns Hopkins met just last week in College Park, with the Terps edging Rutgers 14-12. Senior Hannah Warther netted four goals - all in the first half -  while senior Brindi Griffin tallied a hat trick in the victory. The May sisters, senior Catie May (two goals, two assists) and sophomore Libby May (two goals, three assists) combined for nine points on the day to lead the Terps to the win.
  • Lizzie Colson had a remarkable game in the win as she had a career-high seven groundballs, career-high six caused turnovers and four draw controls. The six caused turnovers are the most by any player in the Big Ten this season and third-most in any game in the country this season.
