COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland softball faced No. 24 Northwestern for its home opener on Friday, falling 9-0 in six innings. The Terps recorded hits from Ruby Butler, Regan Kerr and Taylor Okada.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Okada was first to get on base for the Terps after a single to right field, but Maryland couldn't get her back around
Northwestern was first to get on the board, putting up four runs on four hits in the top of the second
The Terps saw a double from Butler in the bottom of the same frame, but an out following the hit ended Maryland's appearance
The Wildcats threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the third, but a catch from Butler and two from Jaeda McFarland ended things for Northwestern
Northwestern added on another two runs on two hits in the top of the fourth to put them up 6-0
Maryland put up a great defensive effort in the 5th, leaving the Wildcats with only one hit and no runs
A homer from Northwestern's Morgan Newport sent two Wildcats on base back home, to extend the lead 9-0

Maryland will face Northwestern for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 3 with game one beginning at 2:00 p.m.
