JOHNS HOPKINS STORYLINES
LOCKDOWN LIZZIE
- The leader of this year's Maryland team, and yesterday named a First Team All-Big Ten selection, defender Lizzie Colson has had a sensational year for the Terps, solidifying her place as one of the top defenders in the country.
- Colson is tied for the nation lead in caused turnovers with 37 this season and has 10 more caused turnovers than anyone else in the Big Ten.
- An Inside Lacrosse First Team Midseason All-American and Tewaaraton Nominee, Colson also leads the Big Ten with 44 groundballs, eight more than anyone else in the league.
- Through only 13 games, Colson stands sixth all-time in program history for single season caused turnovers while also ranking sixth all-time in program history with 94 career caused turnovers.
- A three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week (3/23) and Inside Lacrosse National Player if the Week (3/25), Colson is also third in program lore with 299 draw controls. Colson has at least four groundballs in eight-of-12 games this season and at least three caused turnovers in seven-of-12 games.
HISTORIC HANNAH
- Yesterday named a First Team All-Big Ten honoree, attacker Hannah Leubecker has starred for Maryland offensively this season, leading the Terps with 50 goals, averaging 3.85 per game, the third-most in the Big Ten and 15th-highest mark in the country.
- Leubecker set the program record for the most goals through the first eight games of the season with 35 and was tied with all-time leading scorer Megan Whittle for the most goals through the first 10 games of the season with 38.
- The sophomore has at least two goals in 11-of-13 games this season and at least a hat-trick in eight-of-13 games, with two seven goal games and last night a six goal game.
- Leubecker was named the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week on March 4.
TOURNEY TIME
- The Terps have dominated the Big Ten since entering the conference in 2015, standing at 46-7 overall. Maryland won three-straight Big Ten Tournament Championships in 2016-18 and has a 8-2 record overall in five appearances in the tournament, with four-straight Championship game appearances.
- Overall, including the regular season, Maryland has won eight of the 11 Big Ten Championships (five regular season, three tournament).
- Maryland has won 14 Conference Tournament Championships in program history, with nine of those coming since Cathy Reese became the head coach in 2007 (six ACC, three Big Ten).
- The Terps took home six-straight ACC titles from 2009-14 and three-straight B1G titles from 2016-18. Reese is 23-4 as the coach of Maryland in conference tournament games.
SERIES HISTORY
- Maryland has never lost to Johns Hopkins, standing at 20-0 all-time.
- The Terps have beaten Johns Hopkins twice this season, both by a score of 9-8. In the first meeting between the teams, Hannah Leubecker netted a game-winner in overtime to give the Terps a 9-8 win. In the second meeting, Grace Griffin netted a top shelf winner with 39 seconds left to lift Maryland past the Blue Jays.
- This is the third time Maryland and Johns Hopkins have met in the Big Ten Semifinals, with the Terps defeating the Blue Jays 19-16 in 2017 and 16-11 in 2018.
