COLLEGE PARK, Md. - On Senior Day, the Maryland women's lacrosse seniors combined for nine of the Terps 14 goals as the #9 Terps topped Rutgers, 14-12, on Thursday evening in College Park.
"It was a great night for us to be able to celebrate our seniors," said head coach
Cathy Reese. "It was a chance for us to celebrate nine of our players that have been through a lot in their careers. It was great to come away with a win and was awesome to have fans in the stands."Â

Libby May (two goals, three assists) combined for nine points on the day.Â
The Terps (6-3) fended off the pesky Scarlet Knights (3-6) all afternoon. Rutgers ripped off three consecutive goals late in the second half to tie the game at 12-12 with 6:06 left in the half. Maryland took the lead for good on a goal by sophomore
Shaylan Ahearn, who's free-position shot was deflected but still snuck into the goal with 3:59 left in regulation, made it 13-12, and proved be the game-winning goal. Ahern finished with a pair of goals and five draw controls. Griffin tallied her third of the game with 1:12 left to seal the win.Â
Lizzie Colson had a remarkable game as she had a career-high seven groundballs, career-high six caused turnovers and four draw controls. The six caused turnovers are the most by any player in the Big Ten this season and third-most in any game in the country this season.Â
Madison Hine drew the start on senior day and was strong for Maryland, making six saves, including several highlight stops over the first 30 minutes. Sophomore
Emily Sterling replaced her in the second half and made five stops to secure the win.Â
The Terps have a short turnaround, returning to action at #14 Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m.Â
