COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Jared Bernhardt was named one of five Tewaaraton Award Finalists as announced by the organization today.
The presentation of the 2021 men's and women's Tewaaraton recipients will be made during halftime of the 5 p.m Premier Lacrosse League game between Whipsnakes and Chaos on June 5 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
Bernhardt has established himself as the premier attackman in college lacrosse in 2021, leading the top-ranked Terrapins to an undefeated Big Ten season (12-0) where the Terrapins captured both the regular season and tournament titles.
The 2021 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year currently leads the nation in scoring, averaging 6.25 points per game (75 total) and 4.42 goals per game (53 total) on the season. The three-time USILA All-American has set new records at Maryland in career points (266), career goals (184) and single season goals (53) this season.
Bernhardt set new career-highs in Maryland's Big Ten semifinal win over Michigan, tallying a career-best 10 points and eight goals in the 16-8 victory. Bernhardt was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week five times this season – the most ever by a player in a single season in conference history.
Bernhardt was named a finalist for the Tewaaraton in 2019 after putting together one of the best individual offensive seasons in program history, where he finished second all-time at Maryland in goals (51) and sixth in points (78) in a single season. He is the first player in program history to twice be named a finalist for the Tewaaraton.
