Jaeda McFarland has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. This marks Maryland's first freshman to receive such honor since joining the Big Ten, with Lindsey Schmeiser taking the ACC title in 2013.
In addition, McFarland has been named to the All-Second, All-Freshman, and All-Defensive team; the most honors a player has earned at one time in Maryland history. McFarland led the team in multiple statistical categories this season, including games started (44), runs scored (24), hits (46, 9th in B1G), RBIs (19), triples (4, 4th in B1G), total bases (68) and stolen bases (13, 7th in B1G). Her 1.000 fielding percentage leads the conference, and her three runs scored against Michigan State (04/09) ranks second overall.

Taylor Okada was also named an All-Second Team selection as a second-baseman, along with
JoJo McRae being announced the Sportsmanship Honoree for Maryland.
