PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Maryland softball split its doubleheader against Rutgers on Friday, with freshmen
Megan Mikami and
Michaela Jones each putting up a homer to put the Terps over the Scarlet Knights 5 -0.
GAME ONE
- Jennifer Brann excelled in the circle, allowing zero hits from Rutgers for five straight inningsÂ
- Maryland was first to get on the board in the top of the fourth with a homer of the right field wall from Campbell Kline, the first of her career as a TerrapinÂ
- After a quiet fifth inning from both sides, Rutgers put up three runs on two hits to put them over the Terps 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth
- Maryland went down in order for their last appearance allowing Rutgers to take the winÂ
GAME TWO
- Maryland came back with a vengeance, with freshman Jaeda McFarland scoring on sac fly to put the Terps up 1-0 in the top of the firstÂ
- Both teams went down in order in the second frame, but Maryland came out swinging in the third
- A homer from Jones brought McFarland and JoJo McRae home to extend the lead to four runs
- Mikami put up her first career home run in the very next at-bat for the Terps to bring Maryland up 5-0 over the Scarlet Knights
- Courtney Wyche threw a complete game shutout, allowing no runs on three hits, striking out three of Rutgers' batters in the processÂ
