PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Maryland softball defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 6-2 on Saturday, recording a season-high 12 hits on the day.
Trinity Schlotterbeck and
Courtney Wyche combined for three strike outs and 27 batters faced, allowing just two runs from Rutgers.
Sammie Stefan and

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

- A grand slam homer from Stefan sent all three Terps including herself back around to put Maryland up over Rutgers 4-0 earlyÂ
- Schlotterbeck sent the Knights down in order to followÂ
- Rutgers answered back in the bottom of the third, putting up a homer of their own and a double to bring things within two, 4-2Â
- After a scoreless fourth inning, freshman Michaela Jones recorded her second homer of the weekend (her fourth of the season, now a team-high) to extend the lead by three runsÂ
- Wyche entered the pitching circle for Schlotterbeck in the bottom of the fifth, making her mark early with a swinging strikeout in just her second faced batterÂ
- Both teams tallied a hit in the sixth, but couldn't capitalize off of eitherÂ
- In the top of the final frame, Maryland loaded the bases for the fourth time, and a walk from Caitlyn Koenig advanced Ruby Butler home to secure the win for the Terps 6-2 after the Knights proceeded to retire in orderÂ
