SPARKS, Md. – Four former members of the Maryland women's lacrosse team will participate in a U.S. National Team tryout camp over the next three days, from June 9-11, at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. If selected, they will compete for Team USA in the 2022 World Championships from June 29-July 9, 2022 in Towson, Md.
Defender Lizzie Colson ('21), midfielder Taylor Cummings ('16), defender Megan Douty ('15) and defender Alice Mercer ('16) were all invited to tryouts. Cummings, Douty and Mercer were a part of the 2017 U.S. team that won the World Cup, with Cummings and Douty being named to the All-World Team.
The event is closed to the general public, but a special livestream will be carried by Lax Sports Network on the evening on Thursday, June 10. The livestream will be hosted by former U.S. national team players Sheehan Stanwick Burch and Kristen Kjellman Marshall, giving lacrosse fans a behind-the-scenes and up-close look at the training process and a group of talented athletes.
Colson, a 2021 Tewaaraton Finalist and IWLCA First Team All-American, was drafted as one of 13 college graduates to the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Women's Lacrosse Professional League. She is invited to join Cummings and Douty, who have already committed to play in the league.
