Brionna Jones Named WNBA All Star

NEW YORK -- Former Terrapin legend Brionna Jones was named to the AT&T WNBA All-Star 2021 roster Wednesday. This is Jones' first All Star honor.

The 17th WNBA All-Star Game will be played Wednesday, July 14 at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast live by ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.

A first round draft pick in 2017 who broke into the Sun's  starting lineup a year ago, this is Jones' All-Star debut.  In 2021, Jones is recording career-best figures for scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg), while playing the most minutes of her five seasons (31.1 mpg).

Jones is the sixth former Terrapin to earn a WNBA All Star selection, following Vicky Bullett (1999), Marissa Coleman (2015), Crystal Langhorne (2011, 2013), Alyssa Thomas (2017, 2020) and Kristi Toliver (2013, 2018, 2020).

The initial selection of the All-Stars was conducted through a combination of voting by fans (50 percent of the vote), current WNBA players (25 percent) and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters (25 percent) from June 15 through June 27.

The top 36 vote-getters from that voting process who are not members of the USA Basketball 5×5 roster, were provided to WNBA Head Coaches who determined from that list, the 12 players who will play for the Team WNBA All-Stars. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Each coach was required to submit votes for five frontcourt players, three guards, and four additional players at any position.
