KANSAS CITY -- Former Maryland men's soccer student-athlete Eryk Williamson made his debut for the US Men's National Team in a 1-0 win over Haiti in opening match of the group stage of the Gold Cup at Children's Mercy Park Sunday night.
Williamson, a native of Alexandria, Va., subbed on in the 76th minute and was effective in helping the Stars and Stripes hold onto its advantage. Williamson has been in fine form for the Portland Timbers this season.
Former Terp Donovan Pines was an unused substitute in the match for the United States. In the first match of the night in KC, former Terp Dayne St. Clair was an unused sub for Canada in their 4-1 win over Martinique.
Williamson became the 13th Terp to earn an appearance for the full US National Team. He joins Pines, Chase Gasper and Zack Steffen as Terps who have been called into USMNT camps this season. Steffen helped lead the US to the CONCACAF Nations League title in June. The USMNT is back in action Thursday night against Martinique.
