BOYDS, Md. -- The
inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Professional Women's Lacrosse League is set to begin on Friday evening and six Terps are ready to compete over the five week season that will run from July 23 to August 22 at Maureen Hendricks Field in Boyds, Maryland.
Alex Aust ('13), Taylor Cummings ('16), Megan Douty ('15), Taylor Hensh ('18), Kelly McPartland ('15) and Kathy Rudkin ('18) all signed with the league to play over the summer as part of the 56 player roster.
The league will have a unique format with new teams being drafted every week. The top four players become captains each week and draft their teams from scratch for following week's games. In the scoring system, every player can lose or win points during every game. Athletes score points as individuals and as a team to win MVP titles and cash bonuses.
In Week One, set to begin Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network, Douty was named a captain and Cummings was the first overall pick by Team O'Donnell. Cummings' squad has three of the five Terps that will play in Week One on it, being joined by Hensh and McPartland, while Rudkin is on Team Ohlmiller.
Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse will play a short form, fast paced format consisting of eight-minute quarters, 10v10 gameplay and a 60-second shot clock all housed on an 90yd x 60yd playing field. Play will begin with draws at the beginning of each quarter as well as after every goal.
