Major League Baseball (MLB)
Brandon Lowe, Tampa Bay Rays
Second baseman Brandon Lowe, who leads the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in home runs this season, added to his total on the campaign (24) on Saturday in grand style. Lowe lifted a pitch on the outside corner that hugged the left field foul pole en route to a grand slam in the eighth inning of Saturday night's game at Baltimore. This grand slam ballooned the Rays' lead to 9-3 over the Orioles. Lowe finished the win going 2-for-5 at the plate with five runs batted in, two runs scored, a walk and a strikeout. The Rays currently hold a four game lead over the Boston Red Sox for first-place in the American League East, as Lowe looks to continue his impressive season in the pennant race.
LaMonte Wade Jr., San Francisco Giants
Over the past week, outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. has added to his career year. On Thursday in Arizona, with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and his San Francisco Giants trailing by two runs, Wade came up to bat with the bases loaded. Wade came through in a massive spot, as he drilled a 3-2 pitch into right field for a game-tying two-run single, all while the Giants were down to their final out. San Francisco went on to win 5-4 in 10 innings, due to Wade's heroics in the top of the ninth.
Since then, the outfielder has amassed a four-game hitting streak with five hits, three RBIs, three runs and two walks in that span. He's been batting in the leadoff spot for the Giants, which hold Major League Baseball's best record up to this point.
Minor League Baseball (MiLB)
Kevin Smith, Toronto Blue Jays
Shortstop Kevin Smith picked up another couple of hits for Triple-A Buffalo this week. Smith has been one of the best hitters in all of Minor League Baseball in 2021. He's currently hitting .286 with 81 hits, 18 home runs, 55 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases. He's displayed both contact and power at the plate, along with speed on the basepaths.
Adam Kolarek, Oakland Athletics
Left-handed pitcher Adam Kolarek, who was optioned to Triple-A at the end of May, pitched 2.2 innings for the Las Vegas Aviators this week. He gave up six combined hits, two earned runs and had two strikeouts with no walks in his two outings that were at least one inning each.
Andrew Bechtold, Minnesota Twins
Third baseman Andrew Bechtold of the Wichita Wind Surge, the Double-A affiliate of the Twins, is in the midst of a three-game hitting streak this week. He has three total hits in that span, with a home run, a double and three RBIs.
Randy Bednar, Seattle Mariners
Outfielder Randy Bednar picked up another professional hit this week playing for the Seattle Mariners Rookie League team in the Arizona Complex League. He's now hitting .308 (4-for-13), with two doubles and a triple, in six games at this level after going undrafted.
Sean Burke, Chicago White Sox
After being drafted in the third round in the 2021 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox, RHP Sean Burke has yet to be assigned to a league.
Marty Costes, Houston Astros
Outfielder Marty Costes was promoted from the Corpus Christi Hooks (Double-A) to the Sugar Land Skeeters (Triple-A) by the Houston Astros on August 2. He picked up his first Triple-A level hit with a single on Sunday.
Ben Cowles, New York Yankees
Shortstop Ben Cowles picked up his second multi-hit game at the professional level in the New York Yankees' organization on August 5. He had 15 multi-hit games in 2021 for the Terrapins. Cowles is hitting .278 (5-for-18) through five career MiLB games.
Jose Cuas, Kansas City Royals
Relief pitcher Jose Cuas improved to 3-0 at the Minor League level in 2021 with a three inning performance on Friday for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Cuas pitched three innings and gave up just two hits and one unearned run, while striking out five against the Arkansas Travelers.
Nick Dunn, St. Louis Cardinals
Second baseman Nick Dunn tallied the second three-hit game of his Double-A career on Sunday. He went 3-for-5 with three singles and an RBI against the Tulsa Drillers. Dunn previously tallied three hits in a game on July 25, just 12 games prior.
AJ Lee, Houston Astros
Shortstop AJ Lee has spent time in Low-A with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, High-A with the Asheville Tourists, Double-A with the Corpus Christi Hooks and Triple-A with the Sugar Land Skeeters within the 2021 calendar year. He most recently played for Corpus Christi at the end of July.
Hunter Parsons, New York Mets
Hunter Parsons has been pitching well for High-A Brooklyn in the New York Mets organization. Parsons has not given up a run in each of his last four outings, which is six innings total. In his last outing on August 6, he went two scoreless innings and gave up just two hits, with three strikeouts. Three strikeouts was the most that he had in an outing since June 9, which was 10 appearances prior.
Mike Shawaryn, Kansas City Royals
After pitching for the Boston Red Sox in 2019, reliever Mike Shawaryn started the year with the Omaha Storm Chasers before being released. Shawaryn had a 4.63 ERA over 11.2 innings pitched with his one decision coming in a win. He has not been picked up by another team, yet.
