Major League Baseball (MLB)
Brandon Lowe, Tampa Bay Rays
Second baseman Brandon Lowe blasted his 30th home run of the season Wednesday night and it was a no-doubter. His previous home run season high in the Big Leagues was 17 in 2019. Lowe's 30 home runs has him tied for sixth in MLB with Marcus Semien. He also picked up two more multi-hit games over his last six appearances and has 11 hits in his last nine games.
LaMonte Wade Jr., San Francisco Giants
Right fielder LaMonte Wade Jr. has been a mainstay at the top of the order for MLB's leading San Francisco Giants. Wade came into the game on Saturday in an unfamiliar spot as a pinch-hitter. In the top of the ninth inning with one out and the Giants trailing Oakland by a run, Wade belted a go-ahead two-run home run, which would end up giving the Giants the win. He homered again against the New York Mets on Tuesday night, as he and Brandon Belt hit back-to-back shots. Over the last eight games, Wade has six hits, two home runs, five runs batted in and four runs scored.
Kevin Smith, Toronto Blue Jays
Infielder Kevin Smith made his MLB debut for the Toronto Blue Jays in Washington on August 18. Just two days later on Friday in Toronto he recorded his first big league hit with a single through the right side of the infield. His family was in the stands and had a sentimental reaction to the base knock. Through 10 at bats, Smith has just one hit but he will continue to try and crack the lineup for the Blue Jays.
Minor League Baseball (MiLB)
Adam Kolarek, Oakland Athletics
Since August 19, left-hander Adam Kolarek has made two appearances for the Las Vegas Aviators (Triple-A). He pitched a combined 2.2 innings and gave up two runs on two hits with a strikeout. In seven appearances in August, Kolarek is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA.
Andrew Bechtold, Minnesota Twins
Third baseman Andrew Bechtold snapped a 10-game hitting streak for the Wichita Wind Surge on Wednesday. He had a three-hit game over that span and has been incredible offensively. He has upped his average from .230 to .238 over that span too.
Randy Bednar, Seattle Mariners
Outfielder Randy Bednar continues to swing a hot bat in his first month as a professional baseball player. On Friday he belted a fastball into the left-center field gap and legged out a stand-up triple. He's had 37 professional at bats and is hitting .297 with a .491 on-base percentage. He has 11 hits with three doubles, two triples and two home runs.
Sean Burke, Chicago White Sox
On Monday, right-hander Sean Burke was promoted to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, the Low-A affiliate of the White Sox. He spent nine days with the White Sox Rookie League team before being assigned to Low-A. The third-round pick made two appearances and went a combined three innings with just one hit allowed and five strikeouts.
Marty Costes, Houston Astros
Outfielder Marty Costes recorded a couple of hits and two runs batted in over the last few games for the Sugar Land Skeeters. Costes is hitting .261 in August with 21 hits and six extra base hits.
Ben Cowles, New York Yankees
Shortstop Ben Cowles snapped a six-game hitting streak for the New York Yankees Low-A affiliate on Wednesday. Cowles crushed his second career professional home run on August 19. Cowles hit a fastball low and outside to the opposite field over the right-center field wall. He's hitting .283 with a .900 OPS over the course of 53 professional at bats.
Jose Cuas, Kansas City Royals
Right-hander Jose Cuas made his last appearance on Wednesday, throwing one perfect inning out of the bullpen. On Friday for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and gave up three hits with six strikeouts. Cuas lowered his ERA to 2.08 on the season.
Nick Dunn, St. Louis Cardinals
Second baseman Nick Dunn has been struggling a bit at the plate but he belted a solo home run on Wednesday night. He now has four home runs on the season for the Springfield Cardinals. It was his first home run since August 4.
Hunter Parsons, New York Mets
Right-hander Hunter Parsons recorded a bounce back outing in his last appearance on August 20 for the Brooklyn Cyclones. He threw two scoreless innings and struck out two, while allowing just a walk and hit batsmen. Parsons lowered his ERA from 6.26 to 5.83.
AJ Lee, Houston Astros
Shortstop AJ Lee has spent time in Low-A with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, High-A with the Asheville Tourists, Double-A with the Corpus Christi Hooks and Triple-A with the Sugar Land Skeeters within the 2021 calendar year. He most recently played for Corpus Christi at the end of July.
Mike Shawaryn, Kansas City Royals
After pitching for the Boston Red Sox in 2019, reliever Mike Shawaryn started the year with the Omaha Storm Chasers before being released. Shawaryn had a 4.63 ERA over 11.2 innings pitched with his one decision coming in a win. He has not been picked up by another team, yet.
