Balanced Attack Leads Maryland Past George Washington, 3-1

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD –  First half goals from Hope Lewandoski and Emily McNesby and a second half strike from Madison Oracion lifted Maryland over nearby rival George Washington, 3-1. The Terps (4-1) conceded the first goal of the game after a questionable no-call left the Maryland defense susceptible to a George Washington (0-3-2) goal. Instead of folding, Maryland came right back at the Colonials and proceeded to score two goals while outshooting George Washington 11-2 in the first half alone. The Terps continued the offensive pressure in the second as they broke through again with senior Madison Oracion notching her first career goal to put the game out of reach. Maryland finished the game outshooting George Washington 22-7, their widest margin of the season.

History for Oracion
  • Not only did Madison Oracion score her first career goal on Thursday night, but it was also her first career point as a Terp.
  • The defender had logged 1329 minutes entering the game against George Washington with just three shots on goal in her three years in College Park.

Having Hope
  • Graduate student and Maryland mainstay Hope Lewandoski scored her first goal of the season.
  • The strike was Lewandoski's fifth of her career and her first since the 2019 season.

Comeback Kids
  • Thursday's game marked the second time this season where Maryland conceded the first goal but rallied for the victory.
  • This is the first time since 2012 that the Terps have had multiple come-from-behind victories in the same season.

Playing With Heavy Hearts
  • Before the game began Maryland women's soccer honored former Cincinnati women's soccer player Ally Sidloski, who tragically lost her life this past May.
  • Ohio natives Hope Lewandoski, Loren Sefcik and Brooke Weston all played with Sidloski throughout their youth soccer days.

Up Next
  • The Terps will hit the road this weekend to take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Sunday afternoon.
  • It will be the first-ever meeting between Maryland and Saint Joseph's.
