#8 Maryland Settles For Draw Against #24 Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, MD.-- No. 8 Maryland (7-1-1, 2-0-1) and No. 24 Rutgers (7-1-2, 1-1-1) battled to a draw in what was a defensive affair between the Big Ten foes. Niklas Neumann made a great kick save in the 98th minute to stop the Rutgers push in the first overtime to send the game into a second overtime but in the end, neither team could crack the other.

In the 85th minute the Terps fired back-to-back shots on net by Brayan Padilla and Justin Gielen but both were saved by the Rutgers keeper. In what was a frantic end of the 2nd half, Maryland had three shots on net in the final 10 minutes.

Mere seconds before, in the 84th minute, the Scarlet Knights had a breakaway chance which hit the post, and kept the game tied. Two of the many plays that helped Terps defense, which was stellar in the second half thanks to Brett St. Martin, Chris Rindov, and William Kulvik.

In the 59th minute, Rutgers had a breakaway attempt but Neumann came off of his line and made a great save. Then off the rebound, another shot by the Scarlet Knights was blocked by Malcolm Johnston to take nullify the scoring chance.
