HAMPTON, VA – The Maryland wrestling program dropped both duals on Saturday, the second day of the 2022 Virginia Duals.

The Terps fell to South Dakota State 28-6 before falling to No.21 Oklahoma 41-6. Maryland was initially scheduled to face the Penn Quakers on Saturday, but the Quakers withdrew due to their universities COVID-19 policy.

The squad's first victory of the day came at 165-pounds as Gaven Bell topped Tanner Cook 12-8 in an exciting bout that featured multiple reversals and wild scrambles.Bell's victory was the first dual win of his career since taking over the 165-pound spot for the injured John Martin Best. 

Kyle Cochran earned the team's second victory of the dual with a hard-fought 4-0 victory over Cade King. Cochran earned 2:47 of riding time in the bout to bring his weekend total up to 8:23 in three victories. 

Sandoval got the Terps on the board with his third pin of the weekend, this time in 32 seconds. Across his three pins this weekend Sandoval spent only 3:21 on the mat.

Conner Decker and Chase Mielnik both made their season dual debuts against Oklahoma.
