Terps Add Linebacker VanDarius Cowan

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland head football coach Michael Locksley has announced that linebacker VanDarius Cowan has joined the Terrapin football program as a graduate transfer.
Cowan arrives in College Park after earning his degree from West Virginia University, where he played for the Mountaineers for three seasons. The 6-4, 240-pound linebacker saw action in 16 games for WVU with seven starts while battling injuries during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Cowan, a former five-star recruit according to Scout.com, recorded 38 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks during his time as a Mountaineer. He played in 10 games and started four in 2021, posting 15 tackles, 11 of which were solo, and adding one tackle for loss. Cowan's best game of the 2021 season came against the Terps in the season opener as he posted five tackles, including one tackle for loss.
A Palm Beach Gardens, Florida native, Cowan committed to the University of Alabama out of high school. He played in seven games for the Tide as a freshman in 2017. Locksley was on Alabama's coaching staff during Cowan's year donning a Tide uniform, in which they won the national championship.
Coming out of Palm Beach Gardens High School, Cowan was rated as the No. 35 player in the Scout300. Rivals ranked him as the seventh best outside linebacker in the country and 247Sports listed him as the No. 93 player in their Top247.
