What's UP
- Maryland is coming off of an 85-78 win over No. 6 UConn Sunday at the XFINITY Center. Abby Meyers led the way with 20 points, 16 in the second quarter, with 6 boards. Shyanne Sellers added 19 points and 6 assists. Diamond Miller scored 17 points and Brinae Alexander added 11. The win was Maryland's first-ever over Connecticut.
- Maryland currently has three 1,000 point scorers (Miller - 1,237; Meyers - 1,116; Briggs - 1,021) and two players nearing the mark - Brinae Alexander (950) and Elisa Pinzan (964).
- Maryland women's basketball is in its 52nd season and owns a record of 1,087-446 (.709). The Terrapins are No. 11 all-time in NCAA Division I history in winning percentage and No. 9 in all-time victories.
- Senior Diamond Miller was named to the 10-player Preseason All-Big Ten Team for the second straight season to start the year. She is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and was the 2021 Big Ten Tournament Co-MOP.
- Miller is one of 20 top players in the country on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List, an honor by the Basketball Hall of Fame recognizing the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I basketball. Miller was named to the watch list last year as well.
- Miller was also named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Watch List as one of the top 50 players in the country.
- Sophomore Shyanne Sellers is one of 20 top players in the country on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, an honor by the Basketball Hall of Fame recognizing the top small forward in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
- Maryland was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten by both the league's head coaches and media panel. Both groups picked Iowa to win the conference. The coaches selected Ohio State to finish second, Indiana to finish third with Michigan rounding out the top five. The media panel picked Indiana to finish second, Ohio State third and Michigan fifth.
- Two-time National Coach of the Year Brenda Frese brings in nine new players this season, including AP Honorable Mention All-American honoree Abby Meyers (Princeton), All-SEC transfer Lavender Briggs (Florida), All-AAC transfer Elisa Pinzan (USF), SEC graduate transfer Brinae Alexander (Vanderbilt) and All-CAA transfer Allie Kubek (Towson).
- All five transfers averaged over 9.0 points per game last year - Meyers (17.9), Alexander (15.2), Briggs (12.5), Kubek (12.2) and Pinzan (9.3).
- Last spring, Frese also signed two top-55 incoming freshmen in Gia Cooke and Bri McDaniel. Incoming freshman Ava Sciolla and Mila Reynolds signed with Maryland last November, giving the Terrapins a top 10 recruiting class for the 15th time under Frese.
