Box Score MIAMI, FL – The Maryland softball team split its two matchups with UNC-Greensboro on Saturday, winning 5-3 after falling to the Spartans earlier in the day. Three runs in the bottom of the sixth,
Courtney Wyche's strong start on the mound, and
Haley Ellefson's closing buoyed the Terps (2-2) to victory.
Mackense Greico's walk led to an error by the Spartans shortstop that allowed both
Ruby Butler and
Trinity Schlotterbeck to score, making it 4-2 Terps in the bottom of the sixth.
Michaela Jones's RBI single would plate Greico, giving the Terps a 5-2 advantage. UNCG would homer in the seventh, but Ellefson came in for relief to close out the win.
After a quiet first four innings, Maryland's offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Kiley Goff's RBI single knotted the game at one apiece.
Megan Mikami followed that up with a sacrifice fly, giving Maryland its first lead at 2-1. The Spartans would tie the game in the next half-inning.
Both teams remained scoreless through four innings, but the Spartans broke through first after stringing together hits in the top of the fifth, taking a 1-0 lead.
