Break Out The Brooms! Terps Sweep Baylor With 8-4 Win

WACO, TX – The Maryland baseball team finished up a sweep of the Baylor Bears with an 8-4 win on Sunday Afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. Maxwell Costes and Matt Shaw hit two home runs apiece while Jason Savacool pitched eight innings with six strikeouts and no walks. 

Costes' booming home run in the second inning opened the scoring for the Terps (3-0), and Shaw's fifth-inning homer cleared the batting eye in center field. Shaw homered in the seventh inning, scoring Chris Alleyne, while Costes cranked another solo home run in the eighth inning. 

Baylor (0-3) committed four errors on the afternoon.


Notable Numbers
  • Costes had two hits for the second consecutive game, the first time he's had consecutive multi-hit games since 4/2-4/3 last year against Northwestern.
  • Drew Grace also notched his first career-hit for Maryland as he roped a double into right field. 
  • Troy Schreffler Jr. and Luke Shliger also notched RBI's for the Terps. 
  • Nick Lorusso pitched the ninth inning for Maryland, getting the final three outs.
  • Jacob Orr saw his first action of the season, playing at third base in the ninth inning.
