HOUSTON, TX – The Maryland Women's Golf team returns to the fairways for the first time in just under two weeks to compete in the ICON Invitational for their second tournament of the spring season.
With their eyes set on The Lone State, the Terrapins look to improve their most recent performance placing in 16th the last time out. Over the two-day tournament (Feb. 20-21), stroke play format Maryland will play the par-72 nearly 6,400-yard Golf Club of Houston. The venue is also the site of the Houston Open on the PGA TOUR.
Participants in the invitational include host Houston (University of Houston), Oklahoma State, TCU, Southern California, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Colorado, North Texas, Tennessee, and Texas State. Big Ten Conference foes include Michigan State, Perdue, Illinois, and Minnesota.
Maryland will start Patricie Mackova (So.), Panassaya Somchit (Fr.), Maria Vittoria Corbi (Jr.), Angela Garvin (Jr.), and Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer (So.).
The tournament will consist of three rounds of play (day one consisting of 36-holes and day two consisting of 18-holes) in a shotgun format beginning at 8:00 a.m. You can follow the on-course action here.
Hovland's Outlook
"The ICON Invitation hosted by Houston is a great opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country on a championship course. The team has had a great week of competitive practices and is ready to improve from our first event," said head coach Kelly Hovland. "I am eager to see some of our young players step up into a more consistent role as well as our older players emerge as leaders of the team. It's a long spring season, so looking forward to seeing this team continue to grow and develop."
