Shaw's Walk-Off Homer Caps No. 24 Terps' Comeback Win, 10-9

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Matt Shaw smacked am opposite-field home run to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a remarkable comeback win for the No. 24 Maryland baseball team, as the Terps beat Georgetown, 10-9, on Friday night. Maryland moves to 11-2 on the season. 

Shaw's homer was the third of the game for the Terps. Chris Alleyne (solo) and Maxwell Costes (two-run) blasted home runs for the Terps in the first inning. Alleyne went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Luke Shliger continued his tear at the plate going 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Bobby Zmarzlak went 2-for 4 with 2 RBI. Nick Lorusso also drove in two runs and scored two runs. 

On the mound, after a rough start, the Terps bullpen settled down as Sean Heine struck out the side in his one inning on work. Lorusso threw three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Lorusso earned the win with his sterling relief. 

Georgetown (10-5) hit four home runs in the game as Jake Hyde went 3-for-5, including a lead-off homer. Andrew Ciufo hit a grand slam for four RBIs. Ethan Stern drove in three runs on a three-run shot. 


Breaking Down The Action
• The teams got it going in the first inning as Jake Hyde hit a leadoff home run to put the Hoyas up 1-0.
• Maryland answered in the bottom of the first with three runs as Alleyne blasted a solo homer and Costes added a two-run shot for a 3-1 Terps' lead. 
• Georgetown's Andrew Ciufo clubbed a grand slam in the top of the third inning to put Georgetown up 5-3. 
Matt Shaw's sacrifice fly brought home Luke Shliger in the bottom of the third for a 5-4 score. 
• The Hoyas hit their third homer of the game as Ethan Stern knocked out a three-run shot in the fourth to give Georgetown an 8-4 edge. 
• The Terps chipped off one run on a Nick Lorusso sac fly scoring Shliger. 
• Georgetown answered right back with a solo homer, the team's fourth of the day, by Andrew Bergeron in the top of the sixth making it 9-5. 
• The Terps responded with three runs in the seventh as Drew Grace scored on a fielder's choice and Zmarzlak had a two-run single to score Costes and Lorusso. That cut the margin to one at 9-8, Georgetown. 
• Alleyne opened the inning by reaching on a chopper to third that was mishandled and Shaw finished with the dramatics.

3: Sean Heine struck out all three batters he faced in the third inning in relief. 
4: Maxwell Costes hit his fourth homer of the season, in the first inning. 
5: Luke Shliger had his fifth multi-hit game of the season and fourth in the last five games. He's hitting hitting 9-for-19 (.474) ovr his last five games. 


Up Next
• Due to weather in the area, Saturday's game with Cornell has been postponed. The Terps will attempt to play on Sunday at home at a time to a determined. Sunday's game originally scheduled for Bethesda will not be played. 
• Maryland will play Georgetown on Monday against the Hoyas at 6 p.m., in College Park.
