COLLEGE PARK, MD – After a sensational 11-point performance against Villanova, attacker Aurora Cordingley was named both the IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Offensive Player of the week, both entities announced Tuesday.
This marks the fourth time in five weeks that Cordingley has earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors and the second time in three weeks that she's been selected as the IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week.
Cordingley had an 11-point game (six goals, five assists) to lead No. 4 Maryland to a dominant 19-7 win over Villanova on Sunday, the most by a Maryland player in nine years, since Alex Aust had an 11-point game on March 5, 2013 vs. UMBC. The graduate student became only the sixth Terp ever to have an 11-point game in the 49 year history of the program and only the 26th player in Big Ten history to accomplish this feat.
Maryland's leader in points (46), goals (27) and assists (19), Cordingley stands alone, leading the NCAA in points per game (7.67 per game). She also stands second in the nation in assists per game (3.17), fourth in goals per game (4.50) and seventh in shooting percentage (69.2).
The attacker also had a career-high five groundballs in the win over Villanova.
Cordingley is the first Terp to win Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week four times in one season since Taylor Cummings earned the honor five times in 2015. She is the first Terp to win IWLCA Player of the Week twice in a season since Tewaaraton winner Megan Taylor won three times in 2019.
