Big Bats Lead Terps To 11-4 Win Over Monmouth

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland broke out the bats on Friday night as the Terps mauled Monmouth, 11-4, in the Capital City Classic at the Maryland Softball Stadium. The Terps racked up 15 hits with six players posting two hits in the victory as Maryland moved to 11-13 overall heading into Saturday's action.
Haley Ellefson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. She also stole a career-high three bases -- after entering the game with two in her career. Merissa Borkowski went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Michaela Jones blasted a home run, to tie for the team lead with three on the season.
After trailing 4-3 in the fourth inning, Maryland busted out for a six-run bottom of the inning to take a commanding 9-4 advantage.

- Maryland bolted out five doubles with Greico and Ellefson each had two while Kilet Goff had the other for the Terps.
- The 15 hits were the second-most this season as Maryland had 17 against Monmouth on Feb. 25.
In The Circle
- Trinity Schlotterbeck tossed a complete game allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out eight.
- It was her second complete game this season and 10th of his career.
Breaking Down The Action
- Ellefson put Maryland up 2-0 in the first inning with a two-run double scoring Greico and Borkowski.
- Monmouth got on the board in the top of the second with a run to make it 2-1.
- Jones blasted her third homer of the season in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1.
- Monmouth took a 4-3 lead on a pair of errors in the top fo the third inning.
- Maryland piled up six runs in the fourth inning keyed by a Borkowski two-run single scoring Goff and Butler. Then Grieco doubled home Borkowski and Ellefson doubles home McFarland for a 9-4 lead.
- The Terps added two more in the sixth as Megan Mikami scored on a error as Ellefson stole her third base of the game and Okada's single to left brought home Ellefson.
