DALLAS, TX – Playing against the nation's No. 1-rated RPI team, the 22nd-ranked Maryland baseball team lost at Dallas Baptist, 8-3, on Friday night in the series opener at Horner Ballpark.
The Terps (17-4) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Patriots scored the next eight runs of the game to move to 14-7 on the season.
Troy Schreffler Jr. drove in the Terps' first two runs on a first-inning single. Luke Shliger doubled in Sean Lane in the ninth inning. Nick Lorusso, Kevin Keister and Matt Shaw had Maryland's other hits.
Terps' starting pitcher Nick Dean (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed three runs in 4.1 innings.
Maryland saw its four-game win streak come to an end in the first-ever meeting against Dallas Baptist, which has played in the last seven NCAA Division I Baseball Tournaments.

- Maryland started off the scoring thanks to a bases-loaded two-run single from Schreffler Jr. in the top of the first inning, scoring Shliger and Chris Alleyne.

- Maryland got on the board after seven scoreless inning in the ninth inning as Shliger's double off the left field wall brought home Lane to cut the deficit to 8-3. The Terps took advantage of three walks in the inning.

- 5: Catcher Luke Shliger threw out his fifth runner on a caught stealing in the second inning.
- 5: Kevin Keister extended his hitting streak to five games, thanks to a chopper over the third baseman in the second inning.
- 7: Nick Lorusso also extended his hit streak to seven games, with his single in the third inning.
- 13: Chris Alleyne saw his 13-game hit streak come to an end with an 0-for-2 night with two walks. He had a would-be base hit taken away in the third inning after a diving play by Benefield in left.
