WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Aurora Cordingley kept up her torrid pace to start the season, tallying eight points (three goals, five assists) to lead the No. 4 Maryland women's lacrosse team (5-0) to another dominant win, defeating William & Mary, 19-7.
Â
"Good win for us today," said head coach
Cathy Reese. "Coming off our game against Delaware we wanted to improve in a few areas, specifically shooting percentage, and we were over 50-percent today. We did a nice job pushing the ball in transition, we made good saves in the cage and everybody that was an eligible player played today. It was good to see everybody out on the field enjoying the win."Â Â
Â
Cordingley now has 35 points on the season with 21 goals and 14 assists, the second-most in the country. The graduate transfer led a scorching Maryland offense, scoring three goals, with
Libby May and
Hannah Leubecker each putting home four.
Â
Emily Sterling had a great day in cage, recording nine saves and only allowing five goals, a .643 save percentage.
Â
Shannon Smith had a career-best four points (three goals, one assist) and
Jordyn Lipkin posted three points for the second consecutive game (two goals, one assist).Â
Â
Cordingley had six of her eight points in the first half to lead the offense. The Terps won 18-of-29 draw controls in the game led by six from
Abby Bosco, who also had three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Â
The Terps improve to 5-0 on the season and have now won their last three games by double-digit goals, the first time since a three game stretch (Rutgers, Virginia, Michigan) in 2019.Â
Â
Maryland will play four in a row at home now, beginning next Saturday, March 12 against Villanova, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
