COLLEGE PARK, MD --Â Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese officially welcomed Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American Abby Meyers to the program Friday.
Â
Meyers, a 6-0 guard from Potomac, Md., played three seasons at Princeton, where she was named the Ivy League Player of the Year this past year and earned AP Honorable Mention honors. She averaged 18.2 points and 5.9 rebounds as she helped the Tigers to a record of 25-5, the Ivy League title and the NCAA Round of 32.
Â
Frese on Meyers: "We're so happy to provide Abby a homecoming here at Maryland. When we can add a conference player of the year, a winner, a leader, a great teammate, and someone who thrives in the big moments, it's exciting. Everyone knows Katie Benzan was a spectacular Ivy League to Maryland move and I'm just as excited about what Abby will bring to our team. I watched her at Walt Whitman High School and followed her at Princeton. What she's accomplished so far is impressive and she's not done yet. We're thrilled to have Abby and her family and friends here at Maryland."
Â
Meyers on Maryland: "I chose to play my final year of college basketball at Maryland because not only am I from Maryland, but I grew up going to the women's basketball games at the amazing XFINITY Center! I have tremendous respect for the program and all it has accomplished under Coach Frese's leadership, and I want to help continue to build the winning legacy for the one and only Terp Nation."
Â
Meyers dropped a career-high 29 points in the Tigers' NCAA First Round win over Kentucky on March 19. In the Second Round, Meyers and the Tigers took Indiana to the wire. She added 11 points in the matchup.
Â
Meyers finishes her career at Princeton with 936 career points. She averaged 11.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in her three years as a Tiger.
Â
Meyers is Maryland's fourth addition this week, joining incoming freshmen Brianna McDaniel and Gia Cooke who signed with the Terrapins Thursday and transfer Elisa Pinzan from USF who signed Wednesday. Incoming freshman Ava Sciolla and Mila Reynolds signed with Maryland in November, giving the Terrapins a top 10 recruiting class for the 15th time under head coach Brenda Frese.Â
