COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland softball completed a sweep of a doubleheader against Rutgers on Tuesday, taking down the Scarlet Knights, 6-1, in Game 2. The Terps improved to 24-18 and 10-4 in the Big Ten.
Courtney Wyche dominated in the circle, striking out eight while surrendering just one hit and an unearned run.
Taylor Okada recorded her third multi-hit game in her last four games, going 2-for-3 with a double. Maryland's offense totaled nine hits.
Breaking Down The Action
- A first-inning single for Rutgers' Gabrielle Callaway was the only hit the Scarlet Knights would get.
- In the last of the 2nd inning, Michaela Jones recorded a one-out base hit. She came around to score after Rutgers issued three straight walks to Ruby Butler, Kiley Goff and Megan Mikami.
- Butler hit an RBI double in the 4th inning that scored Campbell Kline.
- Taylor Okada drove Haley Ellefson home on an RBI double in the 5th. Okada came around to score on a throwing error after Jones stole second base.
- Rutgers got on the board in the 6th inning, as Kyleigh Sand scored on a wild pitch.
- Mackense Greico bounced into a fielder's choice in the bottom of the 6th, as Mikami scored on an error.
- Okada ripped an RBI single in the 6th that scored Kerr.
