COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland's softball team swept Iowa, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon to win its fifth conference game in a row and equal its best start in Big Ten play since joining the conference for the 2015 season. The Terps are now 18-15 overall and 5-1 in the conference, that mark ties the 2018 season for the best start to league play since joining the Big Ten. Maryland's sweep of Iowa is its first weekend sweep of a Big Ten opponent since also sweeping the Hawkeyes in 2018 (March 30-April 1). That sweep also put the Terps at 5-1 in conference play.Â
Trinity Schlotterbeck was a star in the circle and at the plate. She threw all seven innings, allowing just two runs and four hits while striking out seven. She also blasted her first career home run in the fifth inning.Â
Jaeda McFarland went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on a double and a run scored.
Megan Mikami also had an RBI with the Terps' other two runs scoring on errors. Mikami,

Ruby Butler and
Kiley Goff had the Terps' other hits.Â
Tristin Doster led Iowa (16-16, 0-6 Big Ten) as she went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, including a home run.Â

• Iowa took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Tristin Doster singled in Brylee Klosterman.Â
• The Terps answered as  McFarland scored on a error to level the game at 1-1.Â
• Maryland scored three in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. With the bases loaded Mikami's sacrifice fly brought home  Jones to put the Terps up 2-0. The next batter, McFarland, lined a double to left to score Goff and Butler.Â
• Iowa got one back in the fourth as Doster homered to make to 4-2.Â
• Maryland scored on another error to regain the three-run lead as Mikami came home on a hiy by McFarland to short that was misplayed.Â
• Schlotterbeck's homer in the fifth increased the lead to 6-2.Â
