Terrapins Sign Grad Transfer Brinae Alexander

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese officially welcomed graduate transfer Brinae (brin-AY) Alexander to the program Sunday.
Alexander, a 6-0 student-athlete from Murfreesboro, Tenn., was at Vanderbilt for her first four seasons. This past year, she led the Commodores in scoring with 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and shot 36 percent from outside the arc. Alexander was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2019.
Frese on Alexander: "This is another great day to be a Terp. Our staff continues to find the right pieces to fit our program. Brinae is a tremendous addition to our Maryland family. She gives us another experienced, veteran player who has had a tremendous amount of success in the SEC. She is a dynamic scorer that can score in a variety of ways. We can't wait to welcome Brinae and her family to College Park."
Alexander on Maryland: "I've had Maryland in my sights for a while now. The winning culture and an opportunity to play in the Big Ten were both appealing to me. After speaking with Coach Frese and her staff, I really felt they wanted to bring me into their family. I know that Maryland will be my home away from home where I can not only continue my education, but also have an oppurtunity to truly thrive on the floor with a coaching staff who supports me and a team who wants to win."
Alexander scored a career-high 26 points at Kentucky earlier this season. She suffered a ruptured Achilles seven games into the 2019-20 season and earned a medical redshirt.
Alexander finished her time at Vanderbilt with 823 points and 240 rebounds.
Alexander is Maryland's fifth addition in the last month, joining incoming freshmen Brianna McDaniel and Gia Cooke, transfer Elisa Pinzan from USF and transfer Abby Meyers from Princeton. Incoming freshmen Ava Sciolla and Mila Reynolds signed with Maryland in November, giving the Terrapins a top 10 recruiting class for the 15th time under head coach Brenda Frese.
