Six Terps Named to IWLCA All-Region Teams

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Six members of the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team were selected to the IWLCA All-Mid Atlantic Region teams, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Thursday.
Graduate students Abby Bosco and Aurora Cordingley and juniors Hannah Leubecker and Emily Sterling earned First Team recognition, while graduate student Grace Griffin and junior Libby May earned Second Team Honors.
All six Terps have helped lead Maryland to a 17-1 record and both the Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament titles. All six were also named to the All-Big Ten team, while Bosco was named the Big Ten Defender of the Year, Cordingley was named the Big Ten Attacker of the Year and Sterling was selected as the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year.
Bosco has led a Maryland defense that is allowing 7.56 goals per game, the second lowest mark in the country. The Big Ten's leader with 55 groundballs, Bosco has defended the opponents best player this season, helping hold 15 of 18 opponents to under 10 goals. A Tewaaraton nominee, Bosco leads the team with 22 caused turnovers and stands second with 78 draw controls. Bosco was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament team after tallying 15 draw controls and seven groundballs over the two game tournament.
Cordingley has had an all-time great season as Maryland's lead attacker this season, totaling 111 points (62 goals, 49 assists), of which the points and assist totals put her No. 5 all-time in program history. A captain on this year's team, Cordingley ranks top three in the nation averaging 6.17 points per game and 2.72 assists per game. Cordingley totaled 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in this past weekend's Big Ten Tournament en route to earning MVP honors.
Leubecker has been key piece to a potent Maryland offense, standing second on the team in both points (62) and goals (53) and also has 17 groundballs, 10 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Leubecker has at least one point in every game this season and at least a hat-trick in 11 of 18 games. Her second straight season with 50-plus points, Leubecker was also a First Team All-Big Ten selection and named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team. Last season, Leubecker was a Third Team All-American.
Sterling has been spectacular in goal all season long, leading the country with a .552 save percentage and a 7.52 goals against average, 149 saves to only 121 goals allowed. In conference play, Sterling set the Big Ten record for the highest save percentage ever by a goalie, standing at an incredible .626. The junior has over a 50-percent save percentage in 11 of 19 games this season and has double digit saves in seven games, including a career-high 16 in the Big Ten Regular Season Championship against No. 2 Northwestern.
Griffin has played every minute for the Terps this season, serving as the leader of the outright Big Ten champions. The three-time captain stands fifth on the team with 32 points and third on the team with 14 caused turnovers, helping lead a Maryland defense that is second in the nation in goals allowed and has held 15 of 18 opponents to single digit goals. Last year a Third Team All-American, Griffin was a First Team All-Big Ten selection this season.
May stands second on the team in points with 62, having a career season with 51 goals and 11 assists. Both an All-Big Ten and All-Big Ten Tournament Team selection, May has been huge in Maryland's biggest two games of the season, totaling eight points (seven goals, one assist) in the Terps Regular Season title clinching win over No. 2 Northwestern and seven points (five goals, two assists) in the Big Ten Tournament title game vs. No. 13 Rutgers.
