COLLEGE PARK, MD - The No. 2 seeded Maryland women's lacrosse team will open up its 2022 NCAA Tournament run against No. 13 Duke on Sunday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The game will air on ESPN Plus with Brendan Hartlove and Taylor Cummings on the call.

  • Maryland enters the 2022 NCAA Tournament having won four of the last seven National Championships, last winning in 2019.
  • The Terps lead the nation with 37 NCAA appearances and are also tops in wins (76), championship game appearances (22) and NCAA titles (14). The Terps are making their 32nd consecutive appearance in the postseason (1990-2021).
  • The Terps have made 11 of the past 12 Final Fours dating back to 2009.
  • Under Cathy Reese, Maryland has five National Championships (2010, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019). Reese is 38-9 at Maryland in the NCAA Tournament, making 11 Final Fours and seven championship games.

  • Last weekend, Maryland won the Big Ten Tournament Championship, giving the Terps both the Regular Season and Tournament titles.
  • The Terps have won 10 Big Ten titles (six regular season championships (2015-19, 22) & four Tournament Championships (2016-18, 22)) and 31 conference championships in total, winning 21 in the ACC (10 Regular Season, 11 Tournament).
  • In eight seasons in the league, Maryland is 43-5 in Big Ten regular season play and 52-8 overall including the Big Ten Tournament.

  • The Terps are 158-5 at home under head coach Cathy Reese, with eight undefeated home campaignsin the last nine seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19 & 21).
  • Maryland is 24-1 in NCAA Tournament games played in College Park under Reese and hasn't lost since 2008.

AURORA CORDINGLEY - TEWAARATON FINALIST
  • Aurora Cordingley was selected as a Tewaaraton Finalist this past week, solidifying herself as one of the five best players in women's lacrosse.
  • Also the Big Ten Attacker of the Year, Cordingley currently stands fourth in the nation in both points (111) and assists (49).
  • The attacker also stands eighth in the nation with a phenomenal .579 shooting percentage.
  • The team captain has made her mark in Maryland lore, currently standing fifth all-time in both single season points and assists, last weekend passing three-time Tewaaraton winner Taylor Cummings and national player of the year Kelly Amonte.
  • Cordingley has over five points in 14-of-18 games this season, over seven points in eight games and two double digit point games, the most since Alex Aust in 2013.
  • The Canadian National Team Member totaled 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in this last weekend's Big Ten Tournament en route to earning MVP honors.
  • Cordingley has recorded at least one point in 50-straight games dating back to April 25, 2018. The first 32 of those games were at Johns Hopkins, where combined with her 18 games at Maryland, she has 27 career games with at least five points.

BIG TEN HONORS
  • The Terps cleaned up Big Ten honors this past week with Aurora Cordingley being selected as the Big Ten Attacker of the Year, Abby Bosco being chosen as the Big Ten Defender of the Year and Emily Sterling being named the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year.
  • Maryland has now won the Big Ten Defender of the Year award in each of its seven years in the conference, with Bosco becoming the sixth Terp to earn that distinction (Megan Douty, 2015; Alice Mercer, 2016; Nadine Hadnagy, 2017; Julia Braig, 2018-19; Lizzie Colson, 2021).

  • Goalie Emily Sterling has been a brick wall in net this season, currently leading the nation with a .552 save percentage and standing second with a 7.52 goals against average.
  • The Big Ten Goaltender of the Year has over a 50-percent save percentage in 11 of 18 games this season and had an amazing .626 save percentage in Big Ten play.
  • A Tewaaraton nominee and unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection, Sterling has been named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, the USA Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week once and has been selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week five times, the most since Tewaaraton recipient Megan Taylor in 2019.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Maryland is 19-10 all-time against the Blue Devils and has won five of the last six meetings.
  • The Terps lost a narrow game, 13-12, to Duke last year in the NCAA Second Round. Libby May had a then-career high six points (four goals, two assists) to lead the Terps offense.
  • Maryland is 3-2 against Duke in the NCAA Tournament, defeating the Blue Devils in 2011, 2013 and 2014 and falling in 2008 and 2021.
