No. 14 Terps Win School-Record Tying 42nd Game; Top JMU, 12-2

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 14 Maryland tied its school record for total wins in a season with its 42nd victory on Tuesday afternoon with a 12-2 win over James Madison at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. The Terps, who are No. 10 in the RPI, are now 42-10 overall, equaling the win mark of the 2015 team that went 42-24 in advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals. Maryland smashed five home runs as they continued their torrid power stretch. The Terps have 23 homers in their last five games, an average of nearly five per game. Maryland finished the regular-season at 24-2 at home, setting a school record for home wins, breaking the mark of 23, set in 2002.

Nick Lorusso went 3-for-3, hitting two home runs with four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Terps' potent offense. Maxwell Costes also drove in four runs as he went 2-for-3 with a home run. Chris Alleyne hit his 19th homer of the season to tie teammate Matt Shaw for the Big Ten lead in home runs. Ian Petrutz added his second homer in as many games.

Five Terps had multiple hits overall. In addition to Lorusso and Costes, Alleyne (2-for-5), Petrutz (2-for-5) and Luke Shliger (2-for-4) all had a pair of hits.

One of the big stories was the effectiveness of the Terps' pitchers. Starter Andrew Johnson went a career-high three scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out a career-high five batters. Logan Ott threw a career-high five innings in relief without allowing a run and giving up just two hits and one walk.

Breaking Down The Action

• James Madison got on the board as Ryan Dooley hit a two-run homer to cut the Dukes' deficit to 3-2 in the fourth.

• Lorusso hit his second bomb of the night in the sixth to make it 6-2.
• The Terps added on five more runs in the sixth to make it 11-2. Lorusso walked with the bases loaded for his fourth RBI. Costes doubled down the leftfield line to bring home Lorusso and Alleyne.
