COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland women's lacrosse team earned the No. 2 overall seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the committee announced Sunday evening.
The Terps (17-1), who received a bye, will host Duke (15-3) and Johns Hopkins (10-8) in the first round on Friday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. Maryland will face the winner in the second round on Sunday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m.
Maryland has beaten Johns Hopkins twice this season, 17-6 at Hopkins on April 2 and 14-6 this past weekend in the Big Ten Semifinals. The Terps are 19-10 all-time against Duke and have won five of the last six meetings.
Making their 32nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, the Terps stand at 17-1 and won both the Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The Terps are 10-1 against teams in the tournament field.
Maryland leads the nation with 37 NCAA appearances and are also tops in wins (76), final fours (27), championship game appearances (22) and NCAA titles (14). The Terps 32 consecutive appearances (1990-2022, minus 2020 due to COVID-19) is also the longest in the country. Maryland has made the final four 11 times under head coach Cathy Reese (2009-19) and has won four of the last seven national championships (2014, 15, 17, 19).
First and second round games begin on Friday and Sunday, May 13 and 15, respectively, on ESPN Plus. The quarterfinals follow on Thursday, May 19 at noon ET, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Championship Weekend at Homewood Field in Baltimore, MD includes the semifinals airing on ESPNU at 3 and 5 p.m., on Friday, May 27, and the title game on Sunday, May 29 at noon on ESPN.
