COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland lacrosse legend Brian Dougherty was inducted into the Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame this past weekend as part of the inaugural 2022 class.
A three-time MLL Goalie of the Year, Dougherty was one of the best goalies in lacrosse throughout his professional tenure and in 2006 recorded an incredible 62.7 save percentage. He finished his career with an astounding 1,003 saves.Â
Known as a leader and a winner, Dougherty led his teams to three MLL Championships including the first-ever back-to-back titles with Philadelphia in 2006 and 2007.
Inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008, Dougherty was a two-time First Team All-American and two-time Kelly Cup winner as the nation's best goalie. In 1995 he was named the Nation's Most Outstanding player, North-South Game Outstanding Player, and was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament team.Â
He was the starting goalie for the 1998 U.S. National Team that won gold at the ILF World Championships in Baltimore.Â
The other ten members of the inaugural class included: John Grant Jr., Mark Millon, Casey Powell, Gary Gait, Jay Jalbert, Matt Streibel, John Gagliardi, Pat McCabe, Nicky Polanco, and Paul Cantabene.Â
