COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Outfielder Chris Alleyne and pitcher Jason Savacool were named Second Team All-Americans by D1Baseball.com, the publication announced on Friday. Maryland is one of just 10 programs to place at least two players on an All-American team and the only Big Ten team represented on any of the three teams.
Alleyne put together one of the greatest seasons in Maryland Baseball history, batting .331 with 24 home runs, 79 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases. His 24 home runs are the most in a single season in program history as are his 263 at-bats.
The Philadelphia native also became the first player in Division 1 baseball to hit more than 20 home runs and steal more than 20 bases in a single season since 2018. Alleyne was also named Big Ten Player of the Year, a Collegiate Baseball First Team All-American, ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-East Region, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association First Team All-American, and a Golden Spikes Semifinalist.
On the mound, Savacool was dominant all season, accumulating 123 strikeouts while pitching a team-high 107.2 innings. The Baldwinsville, New York, native finished the season with an 8-3 record and a 2.93 ERA. Savacool was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team this season, a finalist for Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, and a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Third Team All-American.
