Matt Shaw Named Cape Cod Baseball League MVP

College Park, MD -- Matt Shaw has been awarded the Cape Cod Baseball League Pat Sorenti Most Valuable Player Award, the organization announced Thursday.

The 2022 Cape Cod League All-Star becomes the first Maryland player to receive the award since Jim Norris in the summer of 1969. Shaw has had a tremendous summer season with the Bourne Braves, posting a regular season slash line of .360/.432/.574, each of which leads the league. The Brimfield, Massachusetts native also finished the regular season with five home runs and 21 stolen bases, both good for third in the Cape.

With Shaw leading the way, the Bourne Braves secured the President's Trophy, which is given to the team with the best regular season record each year. This marks the second consecutive season that the Braves have received the award, becoming the first team to accomplish the feat since the President's Trophy was unveiled in 2012.

Shaw and the Braves begin round one of the playoffs Thursday Aug. 4, when they host the Falmouth Commodores.
