Terps Welcome Goalie Julia Hammerschlag To Program

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland women's lacrosse head coach Cathy Reese announced the addition of goalie Julia Hammerschlag to the program on Thursday.
Hammerschlag, a native of Baltimore, MD, played high school lacrosse at McDonogh and comes to Maryland from the University of Florida where she played the last two seasons.
"We are very excited to welcome Julia into our family," said Reese. "She adds high level experience to our goalie group that will help us tremendously on the field. We can't wait to get her to College Park in the coming weeks as we head into fall practice."
Hammerschlag has played 335 minutes in goal over the course of 32 games for Florida, a team that won the AAC Championship in 2020 & 2021 and made the NCAA Quarterfinals in both seasons. The junior has recorded 33 saves, recorded 11 groundballs and caused one turnover.
This past season, Hammerschlag notched a .447 save percentage, recording 21 saves to 26 goals allowed. In three of Hammerschlag's 15 appearances, she allowed no goals.
Hammerschlag was a two-time IAAM Champion at McDonogh, being named an Under Armour All-American as a senior.
The net minder joins a goalie group that features 2022 IWLCA National Goaltender of the Year and Honda Award Finalist Emily Sterling and a program that had the first ever goaltender to win a Tewaaraton Award in 2019, Megan Taylor.
