COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland field hockey's graduate student midfielder,
Sammy Popper, is this week's Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week. Popper scored two goals, including one game-winner, to aid the Terps to two wins over ranked Big Ten opponents.
Popper scored two goals during Maryland's 2-0 trip to the midwest with a pair of wins over ranked teams. She scored the game-winning goal against No. 16 Michigan. The goal came midway through the first quarter as the Terps were awarded a penalty corner. Popper's strike deflected off the goalie and into the goal to ultimately give Maryland another conference win.
She opened the scoring against No. 9 Ohio State to aid the Terps to a 2-1 victory. Similar to Michigan, she scored early in the first quarter to give Maryland its first lead of the day. Hannah Boss intercepted a pass from the Buckeyes and quickly passed the ball to a waiting Popper in the circle. She made a quick move to fake the keeper and sent her shot into the goal.
Popper extends her goal streak to three games. She has 13 points on the year from six goals and one assist. She is tied for the most game-winning goals with three on the year.Â
The Terps return home to resume conference play on Friday, October 20 as they host No. 6 Iowa at 5 p.m.
