COLLEGE PARK, MD - Coming off a win over Penn State in front of a sellout home crowd, Maryland looks to keep its hot stretch going as No. 3 Purdue visits the XFINITY Center on Thursday night. The Terps have been terrific at XFINITY this year with a 13-1 record and have won a program-record 10 consecutive Big Ten games at home. Maryland will be looking for its first win over an AP Top-5 team at home since defeating Iowa, 74-68, in 2015-16.
Traffic & Parking Notice
Fans are also encouraged to arrive early due to the 6:30 p.m. tip and be prepared for extra traffic on campus and around the XFINITY Center. Fans who do not have permits to park in XFINITY Center lots should enter campus via Route 193 and Stadium Drive or utilize Route 193/Adelphi/Campus Drive to access Lot 1 and Stadium Drive Garage (SDG) for ease of entrance. Additionally, fans are encouraged to explore alternate parking options such as The Hotel Parking Garage and the College Park Metro (fans are allowed to take the UCMP Metro 104 Shuttle to campus).
The game will be televised on BTN starting at 6:30 p.m., while fans can also listen to the Maryland Sports Network (105.7 FM - Baltimore, The TEAM 980 AM - Washington, D.C., Sirius XM 195, One Maryland App) with Voice of the Terrapins Johnny Holliday (play-by-play), Chris Knoche (analyst), and Walt Williams (analyst) calling the action.
 

The Terps have found their stride again over the last month winning seven of 10 games with Maryland currently tied for 6th in the Big Ten standings. In that stretch, Maryland sits just behind Purdue (9-2) and Indiana (8-3) for wins, while being tied with Illinois (7-2), Iowa (7-3), and Northwestern (7-4) as the Big Ten teams in that span. Six of those wins have come at home where Maryland is outscoring its opponents by 12.4 points per game. Maryland is 2-0 this season in 'rematch' games after defeating Wisconsin and Michigan at home following losses on the road.

Maryland enters the game at No. 28 in the current NCAA NET rankings with three Quad 1 wins and three Quad 2 wins. The Terps are also receiving votes this week in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls.

  • Purdue leads the all-time series 8-5 with the teams having split three of the last six meetings.
  • Maryland narrowly missed the road upset earlier this season falling in West Lafayette, 58-55. 
  • Maryland is 3-5 against Purdue when the Boilermakers are ranked in the AP Top 25 poll. Purdue was ranked No. 3 in the 2018 (L), 2022 (L), 2023 (L) meetings; No. 12 in 2019 (W); No. 18 in 2016 (W); No. 20 in 2016 (L); No. 23 in 2017 (L); and No. 24 in 2021 (W).

  • Jahmir Young is one of 13 active players in the NCAA to post 1,800 career points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists.
  • Entering the season, many questioned Jahmir Young's ability to translate his scoring from C-USA to Power 5 play.
  • Young's response has been a team-best 16.2 points and 3.2 assists per game. This season, he has a seven 20-point games including a season-high 30 against No. 24 Ohio State. In Big Ten play, Young has been magnificent averaging 18.1 points. He is also the third-leading rebounder (4.8) overall and has the fourth-most blocked shots (12) on the team.
  • Young is the nation's 12th-ranked active career scorer with at 16.6 point per game average and the 34th ranked player in overall points (1,825).
  • Young posted his first double-double (7th of his career) as a Terp with 30 points and 11 rebounds against No. 24 Ohio State. He became the first Maryland guard since Greivis Vasquez to post a 30-point, 10-rebound game. Vasquez had a triple-double with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against North Carolina on Feb. 21, 2009.
  • At 18.1 points in league play, Young ranks fifth among all Big Ten players in scoring for league games. His 26 steals also ranks third in Big Ten games.
  • In the win over Nebraska, he became one of two Big Ten players to post at least 18 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals in a game since 2002-03 joining Northwestern's Chase Audige who did so this January as well.

  • Over the last eight games, Maryland has averaged just 7.6 turnovers per game compared to its season average of 10.9 per game. The Terps are 6-2 in that stretch.
  • In both the Indiana and Minnesota games, the Terps had a season low five miscues - against the Hoosiers, Maryland had zero turnovers in the first half.

Scott Reaches 1,000 Points; Eclipses 500 Boards
  • Donta Scott became the 59th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in the win over Miami. He scored 24 points in that game and now has 1,227 career points. He is also the 17th Terp to post 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career. Through 119 career games he now has 648 rebounds.
  • Darryl Morsell (1,090 points / 510 rebounds / 2018-21) and Anthony Cowan (1,881 points / 508 rebounds / 2017-20) were the most recent Terps to post 1,000/500.
  • Scott is now 34th all-time in scoring and needs nine points to move past Jim O'Brien (1970-73) for 33rd. He needs 12 more boards to jump into the top-20 passing Rod Horst (651, 1967-70) and Nik Caner-Medley (659, 2002-06).
  • Scott was one of 20 players named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Watch List as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame in late October.
  • This is Scott's second year on the watch list after also garnering the honor last season. He joins Jalen Smith (2019-20) and Jake Layman (2014-15) as Terps to be recognized.
  • Scott ranked as the No. 49 overall player nationally last season.

  • When Maryland wins, the Terps are averaging 77.7 points while allowing just 59.7 per game. Maryland is also averaging 17.1 made free throws and hold a +4.6 advantage in rebounds. 
  • The Terps are holding opponents to just .399 from the field and .304 from beyond the arc this season in wins.
  • Maryland is 16-0 this season when leading at halftime (the Ohio State victory snapped a 14-game losing skid when trailing at the half) and 15-1 when committing fewer turnovers (turnovers were equal against Ohio State, only loss at #3 Purdue). The Terps are also 17-0 this year when leading with 5 minutes remaining in the game (21 straight).
