No. 21 Terps Drop 4-1 Decision To Minnesota

Box Score WACO, TX No. 21 Maryland lost 4-1 to Big Ten foe Minnesota on Saturday in its final game of pool play in the Baylor Invitational. The Terps and Gophers will rematch at 6:30 p.m. ET in bracket play for a chance to advance to the Baylor Invitational Championship on Sunday. 

The Terps dropped their second game in a row after starting the year 9-1 and are now 9-3 overall. Minnesota improved to 7-5 on the young season. 

Maryland had five hits coming from the bats of Jaeda McFarland, Kiley Goff, Michaela Jones, Sydney Lewis and Trinity Schlotterbeck. The Terps scored their lone run as Jones brought home Schlotterbeck, who tripled in the seventh, with a sacrifice fly. 

For McFarland, it was her team-best 17 hit and fifth double of the year. Lewis singled in her return home to Texas. 


In the circle, Schlotterbeck tossed her third complete game of the season, striking out six in seven innings and throwing exactly 100 pitches. 

Taylor Krapf led the Gophers' offense as she went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. The Gophers used two pitchers, who didn't allow a run.

  • Minnesota took an early lead as Delanie Cox singled to left center to score Addison Leschber in the second inning. Then Sydney Strelow sacrifice fly scored Taylor Krapf for the Gophers' second run.
  • The Gophers extended their lead to 3-0 as Reilli Gardner scored on a fielder's choice. 
  • Krapf homered to left center in the sixth to put the Gophers up 4-0. 
  • The Terps got on the board as Schlotterbeck tripled to right field and came home on a sacrifice fly by Jones to a 4-1 score.
