Ahearn, Bosco Named Big Ten Players of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- After a two win week for the No. 11 Maryland women's lacrosse team, both midfielder Shaylan Ahearn and defender Abby Bosco earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
This is Ahearn's second Midfielder of the Week honor of the season and fourth of her career, also winning on 2/28/23, 2/22/22 & 3/1/22. The 2022 Big Ten Defender of the Year, this is Bosco's first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career, winning on 3/8/22.
Ahearn dominated in the draw circle all week, helping Maryland hold a 40-14 advantage in wins over William & Mary and Villanova, a .714 win percentage. The team captain 22 draw controls over the two games, 12 against William & Mary and 10 against Villanova and recorded a career-high four points at Villanova, matching a career-high with three goals and tallying an assist. Against William & Mary, Ahearn helped Maryland win 17-of-19 draw controls after the first quarter and now stands ninth in the nation and first in the Big Ten with 56 draw controls on the season. Ahearn leads a Maryland draw unit that is winning 62-percent of all draw controls, the sixth-best mark in the nation.
Bosco led a Maryland defense that allowed only 10 goals over two wins over William & Mary and Villanova, filling up the stat sheet with six groundballs, six caused turnovers and 10 draw controls and recording an assist on the Terps opening goal of the game vs. William & Mary. The team captain led the Terps with three groundballs and three caused turnovers in each game and recorded her 200th draw control of her career at Villanova as one of her seven on the day to help the Terps win the draw battle 18-6. Overall in the week, Bosco recorded 10 draw controls as Maryland out-drew the other team 40-14. The graduate student helped hold William & Mary to four-of-18 shooting (22.2%) and Villanova to only 16 shots, causing three turnovers as part of Villanova's 17.
Ahearn, Bosco and the Terps are back in action Wednesday night against Georgetown at SECU Stadium. Opening draw is slated for 7:00 p.m.
