No. 22 Terps Extend Win Streak to 11 in Home Opener

COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 22 Maryland beat North Dakota, 9-4, in their first home game of the season. The red hot Terps have now won 11 games in a row, dating back to the Baylor Tournament on Feb. 26. The team is 20-4 on the season. 

The 11-game win streak is Maryland's longest win streak since winning 13 in a row in 2011. This is the Terps' best start to a season since starting 21-3 in 2008. 

Kyra Pittman had a solid outing, tossing three strikeouts and completing a full seven innings in the circle. This was the pitcher's first career complete game. 

Amelia Lech spearheaded the Terps offense, finishing 3-4 with four RBIs, two doubles, and one run scored. Lech's two-run bomb kicked off Maryland's six-run third inning. The Terps finished the game with an impressive 15 total hits, coming from nine different players. 

The North Dakota Fighting Hawks fell to 3-25. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • North Dakota scored two in the first inning off of a fielder's choice and a double. 
  • Maryland answered in the second stanza with a run. Sammi Woods drove in Michaela Jones from second with an RBI double off the wall. 
  • Amelia Lech's two-run bomber put the Terps in the lead in the third. Lech's park-leaving shot knocked in Kiley Goff. An RBI double by Trinity Schlotterbeck knocked in Mackense Greico. Then RBI singles by Sammi Woods and Megan Mikami allowed Michaela Jones and Woods to touch home, bringing the score to 6-2.
  • The Terps added two more runs in the eighth with RBI doubles by Lech and Campbell Kline to score Goff and pinch runner Kamryn Davis, respectively. 
  • North Dakota scored two runs in the sixth with an RBI double and a fielder's choice.
