COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 2-seeded Maryland won its 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament First Round game as the Terps beat 15th-seed Holy Cross, 93-61, on Friday afternoon at XFINITY Center. Maryland (26-6 overall) raced out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back as they cruised to the victory to advance to the Second Round. The Terps are now 26-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament games in College Park and 20-4 in games at XFINITY Center.

The Terps will take on No. 7-seed Arizona (22-9) on Sunday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m. ET and the game will air on ESPN. Buy Tickets

Five Terps scored in double-figures, led by Brinae Alexander, who tallied 18, making 4-of-7 three-pointers. Abby Meyers scored 16 to go along with four assists. Diamond Miller netted 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds, while Shyanne Sellers scored 13 points and handed out a game-best eight assists. Faith Masonius scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting with three boards and three steals.

The Terps shot 52.9 percent from the floor as their defense limited the Crusaders to 41.8 percent on field goal shooting. Maryland's defense forced the Crusaders into 24 turnovers, resulting in 13 Terps steals, led by Masonius and Meyers with three apiece.

Holy Cross (24-9) was led by Simone Foreman with 13 points.

Breaking Down The Action

The Terps scored the first 14 points of the game and led by double-figures the rest of the way. Maryland led 23-4 after the first quarter, as Masonius had eight.
Maryland extended that lead to 52-21 at halftime as they shot 51.3 percent in the half. Meyers had 13 points in that first 20 minutes.
The teams were even in the third, each scoring 20 points.
Maryland finished the game with a big fourth quarter from Alexander to wrap up the win.

This is the Terps' 13th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, dating back to 2010, and 18th in head coach Brenda Frese's 21 seasons at Maryland (with the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled). Maryland is 51-28 (.645) all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 39-16 (.709) under Frese.
Maryland is 21-4 (.840) all-time in the NCAA First Round and a perfect 18-0 under Frese.
Maryland is now 26-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament games in College Park and 20-4 in NCAA Tourney games at the XFINITY Center.
The Terrapins have earned a top-four seed 22 times in their 30 NCAA Tournament appearances and 15 times in head coach Frese's 21 postseasons.
This was the third meeting between Maryland and Holy Cross, with each team taking a meeting. The Terps took their last matchup, 82-74, on November 30, 1997. Their other meeting was in the NCAA Tournament, with the Crusaders winning 81-74 on March 13, 1991.

Miller moved to 11th in career scoring at Maryland, as she now has 1,640. She passed Marcia Richardson (1,630 from 1979-84) in the game. Next on the list is current television broadcaster and Terps' legend Christy Winters-Scott, who scored 1,679 from 1987-90.
Meyers now has 1,414 points in her career, with 947 in her three seasons of action at Princeton before joining the Terps this season.
Three other Terps also have 1,000 career points: Lavender Briggs, 1,189 Brinae Alexander, 1,128, and Elisa Pinzan, 1,029.

Double-Figures Update

With her 18 points, Alexander has 12 games this season with double-figures and 54 in her college career.
Meyers netted 16 points for her 26th game in double-figures and her 77th on her career, with 51 coming at Princeton.
With 13 points, Miller reached double-figures for the 30th time in 31 games played this season. She's recorded 11 points or more 85 times in her career of 114 games.
Sellers also reached double-figures with 13 points, doing so for the 25th time this season and 38th time in just two seasons in College Park.
With 10 points against Holy Cross, Masonius reached double-figures for the eighth time this season and the 21st time in her Maryland career.
