STATE COLLEGE, PA - No. 10 Maryland will hit the road for the first time in three weeks as the Terps head up to State College to face No. 18 Penn State on Thursday, April 13. The game will begin at 8:00 p.m. and air on the Big Ten Network with Mark Dixon and Rachael DeCecco on the call.
Where we are
- The Terps have won nine games in a row, outscoring its opponents 141-71 over that stretch. Maryland has scored over 13 goals in every game of their win streak and has held each opponent to less than 12 goals.
- Maryland just wrapped up a four game homestand, where the Terps went 4-0, defeating two top-20 opponents in Princeton and Michigan and going 3-0 against Big Ten opponents, adding Johns Hopkins and Ohio State.
- Goalie Emily Sterling has been tremendous during Maryland's nine game winning streak, tallying 83 saves to only 70 goals allowed, a .542 save percentage. The senior has 54 saves in the Terps last four home games and was last week selected as the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
- The Terps cleaned up in both national and weekly awards last week. Abby Bosco was named the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week, Emily Sterling was selected as both the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Libby May was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and Shaylan Ahearn was chosen as the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week for the fourth time in six weeks.
50th Season of maryland women's lacrosse
- The 2023 season will be the 50th season of Maryland women's lacrosse, a program that has been the most successful in the entire sport since its start.
- Maryland has won 15 national championships and 31 conference championships. The Terps have participated in 28 Final Fours, including 12 of the last 13 and have won 12 of the last 28 national championships, including seven-straight from 1995-2001. Maryland has an all-time program record of 771-153-3 through 49 seasons.

- Attacker Eloise Clevenger had a historic game against Ohio State in the Terps last game, setting the Maryland record with eight assists, breaking current volunteer assistant coach Alex Aust's previous record of seven set against UMBC in 2013.
- Clevenger's eight assists are the most by any player in the nation in a game this season and make her only the 11th of any Big Ten player ever to have an eight assist game.
- The junior currently stands seventh in the nation and second in the Big Ten with 37 assists this season. She has nine games of multiple assists and seven with three-plus assists.

- Maryland has been dominant on the draw circle through 14 games, standing with the second-best draw control percentage in the nation, winning 62.8 percent of all draw controls this season. The Terps have recorded 16.73 draw controls per game this season, the 10th-best mark in the nation. Shaylan Ahearn stands 10th in the country and leads the Big Ten with 103 draw controls.
- In the Terps game against Drexel, Shaylan Ahearn became only the sixth Terp in program history to surpass the 200 career draw control mark with 14. In the Terps game against #24 Penn, Ahearn had the second best draw control mark of her career with 13 to move into fourth all-time in program history with 269, surpassing Karri Ellen Johnson (2008-12). Ahearn now has 285 career draw controls.
- Ahearn tallied 115 draw controls last season, the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
- Another Terp, Abby Bosco, also eclipsed the 200 draw control mark at Villanova and now has 238 in her career. 157 of those have come as a Terp, 81 at Penn, where she played from 2018-21.
big ten dominance
- The Terps have won 10 Big Ten titles (six regular season championships (2015-19, 22) & four Tournament Championships (2016-18, 22)) and 31 conference championships in total, winning 21 in the ACC (10 Regular Season, 11 Tournament).
- In seven seasons in the Big Ten (no 2020 due to COVID-19), Maryland is 45-5 in Big Ten regular season play and 56-8 overall including the Big Ten Tournament. Maryland has never lost a Big Ten home game and has gone undefeated in regular season Big Ten play in every season but 2021.
- Maryland has won 15 Conference Tournament Championships in program history, with 10 of those coming since Cathy Reese became the head coach in 2007 (six ACC, four Big Ten). The Terps took home six-straight ACC titles from 2009-14 and three-straight B1G titles from 2016-18. Reese is 26-5 as the coach of Maryland in conference tournament games.
- The Terps have won 22 Big Ten conference player of the year awards (four attacker, four midfielder, seven defender, five goalie, two freshman) in seven years in the conference. Cathy Reese has been named the Big Ten Coach of the Year four times (2016-19).

- Head Coach Cathy Reese enters her 17th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 314-37 as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours and 22 Conference Championships.
- Maryland is 167-6 at home under Reese, with nine undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '21).
history vs. penn state
- Maryland leads the all-time series with Penn State 44-16-1 and has won 18 of the last 20 meetings.
- Maryland has defeated Penn State in the 2019 Big Ten Semifinals, 2018 Big Ten Championship and 2017 National Semifinals.
- Penn State Head Coach Missy Doherty played at Maryland from 1994-97, winning three national championships. Doherty and Reese were teammates from 1995-97.
- Maryland pummeled Penn State, 13-6, last season behind six points (five goals, one assist) from Aurora Cordingley and a then career-high 13 saves for Emily Sterling.
