UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – In a defensive battle, No. 10 Maryland women's lacrosse fell to No. 18 Penn State, 12-7, at Panzer Stadium on Thursday night. The Terps are now 12-4 overall (4-1 Big Ten), while the Nittany Lions advanced to 11-4 (3-2 Big Ten).

Kori Edmondson each notched a hat trick to lead the Terps with three goals apiece. On defense,
Abby Bosco had three caused turnovers for the Terps.Â

Penn State led 4-3 at the half, reeling off four goals in a row after Edmondson and May scored the first two goals of the game for the Terps. While Maryland kept the deficit at one late in the third quarter, Penn State rattled off five fourth-quarter goals to pull away late.

Breaking Down The Action
- Edmondson and May opened up the scoring for the Terps with a pair of free position shots to claim a 2-0 lead in the first 8:12 of the game. Penn State responded with a free position shot goal of their own to cut Maryland's lead in half at 2-1 to end the first quarter.Â
- Nearing the midway point of the second quarter, the Nittany Lions continued their run with three goals from Murray, Kelly and Kristin O'Neill to take a 4-2 lead with 5:57 to go in the first half. May recorded her second goal of the contest with a woman up off a feed from Shaylan Ahearn with 2:20 to go in the first half to shorten the margin to 4-3 heading into the break.
- The Nittany Lions continued their 6-1 run, opening the third-quarter scoring with goals from Kelly, who scored her second of the game, and Brooke Barger to give Penn State a 6-3 lead with 8:02 to go in the third. Maryland cut the deficit to one as May sealed her ninth hat trick of the campaign with a free position goal and Eloise Clevenger netted her first goal of the contest with 3:48 left in the third stanza. Kelly added her third goal of the contest to pad Penn State's cushion to 7-5 with 28 seconds remaining in the third.
- Murray and Kelly added two more goals, putting the lead at 9-5 in favor of Penn State. Edmondson notched her ninth hat trick of the campaign with a pair of goals to draw the Terps within two. Hoss and Murray wrapped up their hat tricks, scoring a trio of Nittany Lion goals to seal the contest.
